Maricopa County Superior Court Judge Edward Burke ruled Friday that Augustus Shaw is off the ballot, ending Shaw's bid to be the first Republican since 2004 to win a District 17 House seat.

Anthony "Grandpa" Goshorn, a Green candidate for LD17 House dropped out of the race over complaint about signatures.

May 12, 2010, Arizona House Democrats
Gov. Jan Brewer vetoed House Bill 2462, sponsored by Rep. Ed Ableser, D-Tempe (District 17) "This bill would have held tow truck companies that are not playing by the rules accountable for their actions," Ableser said. "It is wrong for tow truck businesses to prey on Arizonans by essentially stealing their cars, and Gov. Brewer is letting them get away with it."

After serving 16 years as a Tempe City Councilman, Ben Arredondo made a surprise switch to the Democratic Party from the Republican Party. He also announced a 2010 run for a District 17 House seat.
